The most famous monuments in Paros are of course the monastery of Saint John the Theologian and the Cave of the Apocalypse. In fact, both monuments including the Chora of Patmos, have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Built in a fortress layout. the Monastery of Saint John stands majestic on a hill above the port of Patmos and is considered as the most important monastery complex in the Aegean. In the Cave of the Apocalypse four meters below ground, according to tradition, Evangelist John wrote the Revelation as was indicated by God’s voice.

The port and the capital of the island are the biggest settlements and is the center of all touristic activity. Therefore do not miss to go for a ride in Skala. Explore also the picturesque Chora all around the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Theologian where you may find the medieval settlement of Chora.
